We shampoo and massage your head, brush your hair, and in that relaxation, you fall into the spell of opening up to us with your thoughts, challenges, and random concerns about life. Hairdressers hear it all.
The cool news is, we have so many resources in our client base, that we truly are wisdom carriers of information. You know, that’s where we get the PH.D from… Professional Hair Dressers… lol. Luckily, our salon is in the midst of doctors, hospitals, universities, and lots of naturopaths, chiropractors, and the like. We see regulars that are computer experts, journalists, housewives..wide variety of amazing people.
One of the first questions we usually ask upon greeting is “How Are You?”. Standard question, right? In the salon, we get pretty down to business with authenticity. That means, if you feel crappy when you come in, you usually respond with the “not feeling that great today” , or “Had a rough week”.
The bottom line is, we have many clients come in that just don’t feel good. Whether it be dizzy, having heart palpitations, depressed, sluggish, overly tired, going to the doctor for this or that… it seems almost 70% of our clientele have something to say about their health on a regular basis.
After going through my own journey of health, I can not only relate, but sympathize. I also can analyze… because I had 7 years of analyzing to do on my OWN health issues.
As a hairdresser, we eat quick, in-between clients. We grab what we can, standing up, we eat fast food, junk food, bad food, cold food, it’s just part of what we signed up for. Who knew, when I entered my own journey of ‘not feeling well’ that it would lead to where I am today?
More food conscious, the awareness is there. Let’s call it a food awakening.
I thought I’d be blogging about other things. Maybe about relationships, maybe about funny salon stories, but this one just keeps moving to the top. So, I might as well get going on what is heavy on my own heart these days, and start relaying what I have come to know to those that read this blog, and see what happens.
It finally hit me yesterday, after hearing more stories, and reading MORE complaints from my Facebook friends, that there is a greater concern than I ever thought, about what we put in our bodies. Without the ‘awareness’ or research that I’ve (and many others have) done on my own journey to better health, we are led like sheep down the path blindly. Well, enough is enough. It’s time for me to get sharing.
It’s time to feel better. In many ways. If it’s more awareness in what you put in your body, more awareness of your internal thoughts, more laughter, more compassion, maybe just overall more peace. It’s time to raise the bar on our own life. Let’s start a journey together of more living!
I am excited to begin.
